Can Zook beat Google?

I got to know about Zook, from my ex-coaluge few days back. I tried the service on my handset here in the UK. The site looks easy use and up to some extent gives answers (as promised). But amazingly my query for movies in Noida returned no result but a Tomcat error( I suppose some debugging was going on at that time).

Anyways the main question here is am I looking at comparing a search engine with an
"answer engine"? This would be unfair to some extent. Also,the question arises for the answer engine that, is that everytime I am "searching" something, am I looking for a an exact "answer"? Sometimes yes and sometimes no.

I listened to the interview of Sameer Sisodia (co-founder Zook) on Kiruba's show, had some good perspectives on the concept of choices and answers. I am intrigued, isn't web 2.0 and the "mobile 2.0" about choices produced by community based knowledge bank rather than anwers provided on the based of yellow page database. I really want to know why is Zook not calling itself mobile based yellow page?

There is another perspective of the market realisation. Given that fact that Indian telecom operators are still offering internet over GPRS and the handsets availble in the market are not that mobile-web user friendly, how much can Zook capitalise in this kind of market with paying hefty amounts of revenue shared with the operators?

I appreciate they have given an SMS based querying capability to the service. But if
the service just returns yellow page results, it's no good.

But Sameer mentioned in his interview that they are trying to build a new community around. It will be interesting to see the commnutiy interplay around Zook.

I suppose with the dimishing returns( not that musch diminished), everybody is trying to get into the mobile webspace including giants like Google,MSN etc.

Congratulations and Good luck to Zook's team for an innovative service, it will be good to see a big sucess in mobile webspace.

I was sitting on my bed working on some presentation and all of a sudden I felt the bed is shaking. Then I realised actually my room was shaking. The tremors very quite
explicit and I felt them for approximately 2-3 seconds.

I felt as if somebody is shaking my house. I live in Hatfield(Hertfordshire), then I rushed look outside, but surprisingly no body was on street. I thought to find relevant details online but on success. I heard one of my flatmates talking loud in the corridor as he felt that too and he was trying to find out whether it was true or not. We both tried to find related news on BBC, but BBC was busy enough in Obama's election campaign. To my surprise when I switched on to SKY, they had the breaking news.

Adiós 2007

Last day of 2007, had to wake 5:30 in the morning, I am feeling so sleepy. I tried reading the book I bought three days "iwoz" ago, but was feeling really sleepy. It's last day of 2007, I dunno what to say about this year, but for sure if look at my achievements than, I had some. I managed to survive LSE.

After a lot of stress got a decent job with T-mobile. Honestly, speaking 2007 was really very uncertain for me, had really nice time and really frustrating stressful time as well. But yes I managed to survive all these and as the life goes on I am understanding the importance of patience.

Yes how can I forget him,

He was one of the gifts to me, a truly cute, awesome creation of GOD, my family's next generation has finally arrived. But does that mean I am growing old, I dunno about that. But yes there is a lot to do now, no resolutions as usual for new year, as I don't believe in them.

Things should be okay in next year, let see even if they are not I need to make them fine.

I still dunno why am I blogging after 4 months and that too 8:30 in morning, when I should work.

Thanks 2007, looking forward for 2008.

I did my exam Systems development, and for the first time in the LSE's exami did well. I am well satisfied with this. This is nice I am enjoying my drink and sitting oustide under the sun its 7 p.m. and chatting with my friends. And a nice thing to learn from PO he says

"I am who I am, I am no better, I am no worse, I do what I can and I love what I do"

and the original one from PO "It never ends but every beginning is a success...".

Nice learning for today.

I am planning to post my papers on the motivations of open source and how blogs add value to the business. But I have to wait for some time else the idiotic "JISC" will catch me for plagiarism. I know I haven't got good grades on the first one, and would be getting the same on the second one. But I think it would be of some help to many people who are doing some work on the domain. Oh man! I have to study know, I have an exam tomorrow. Anyways, I am gonna write on the MeraVideo and Apnatube soon. Also I will publish list of all the academic papers regarding open source. This is a search list from the great "Google Scholar". I have go back to studies now.

Online Video websites have been growing, and after the Youtube was bought by Google for a whopping 1.65 billion dollars, everybody is looking for making money. At the time when GoogleYoutube, the market was skeptical about the kind of money Google was willing to pay. But true, Google saw the value YouTube had in future for their business. I am not sure about the success of Google Video in comparison to Youtube, but Youtube's acquisition gave Google a massive amount of user generated content. I was watching one of the Youtube video regarding the offline meet of Youtuber's in San Fransisco. It's amazing to see that the online community took an initiative to meet offline. Although these offline meets are not new for the Internet community and if I am not wrong the linux community have been doing this more than a decade. Now understanding this online video blogging is very tough for me. But, ofcourse companies like Google would be making whopping sum of money with this phenomena. Had Google waited for more time to acquire I guess the amount of money they paid for Youtube must had gone more than the double. Businesswise, this acquisition made sense because Youtube fits correclty in the Google's Ad business model. Another question arises that what made Youtube so successful when the competitors websites like Veoh,Dailymotion is not that popular. Also, the one of the first

sight in the video market Guba.com which has been operating in market since 1998 is not known in the market. Now I this model of Youtube is tried to be copied by some other players in the other niche country markets like India. In my next post I will talk about two major video blogging sites which are trying create the same wave as of Youtube but in the Indian market.

They are Apnatube.com and Meravideo.com.

Primarily, I will post my study on there interface, a comparison between both of them and of analysis on these sites and the markets they are operating.

Anurag Dod is the CEO and founder of Guruji.com, the latest India-based search engine. Recently, Guruji secured an investment of $7 million from Sequoia Capital, the same investors who backed Google.com. Anurag has more than years of extensive software engineering experience, including key contributions to two successful startups. As an engineering manager in Wisenut Search Engine, he was instrumental in developing its core search technology and has a patent pending for that. Wisenut was acquired by LookSmart in 2002. He also held senior engineering positions in eBay, Synopsis and Delsoft. Anurag holds BTech in eclectrical engineering from IIT Delhi and a Masters in computer science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. YouTube sold out for a whopping $1.65 billion to Google recently. And guess what the YouTube users got? Nothing. So, this has rubbed people like Chris Messina the wrong side. We talk to Chris about CrowdSourcing and he explains why big companies buying popular user-generated content websites may not be a great thing. Chris Messina, aka FactoryJoe, is best known for his involvement in helping to create the BarCamp movement and Microformats. Recently he co-founded The Citizen Agency with real-life partner Tara Hunt. Chris is a widely respected ambassador of open-source, most notably Firefox and Flock. Chris, as a volunteer for the Spread Firefox campaign, also designed the highly influential 2004 Firefox advert which appeared in the New York Times in 2004. Chris currently resides in San Francisco.

Why do Indian companies pay such scant respect for usability? We ask Amit Ranjan, who heads the Delhi office of Uzanto, a Silicon Valley startup. He heads the product development team that has built two of Uzanto's products, SlideShare & MindCanvas. SlideShare is a Web 2.0 application for sharing PowerPoint Presentations on the web, while MindCanvas is an online research software that helps designers conduct user research while designing a web product/service. Amit keenly follows emerging trends in the consumer Internet space in India and authors a blog called Webyantra, where he profiles innovative Indian web products. Webyantra is good place to go if you want to check out what's happening in Indian Web 2.0. He is actively involved in organizing events like BarCamps and Mobile Mondays in Delhi. In a previous professional avatar, Amit was into product marketing & sales. His last stint was with PepsiCo in their snacks food division. Prior to that, he worked with Asian Paints and Godrej & Boyce in their industrial division. Dushyant Mehta and his company, IndiaPicture, has been in the news recently for signing up a deal with Corbis to be their exclusive distributor in India. Corbis is a company owned by Bill Gates and it is the world's second largest stock photo website. It's not often you come across a company where the CEO does not have a corner office but has the same setup as a trainee developer. I was pleasantly surprised that the ThoughtWorks office has an open and innovative culture — something that's not too common in India. The fact that they played a good host to BarCampers over the weekend is a good testimony to that. The credit goes to Rohit Bansal, director of delivery at ThoughtWorks Technologies India Pvt. Ltd. Rohit is the subject of this interview, where he talks about what ThoughtWorks does and how it aims to be more than just another software arm of an international IT company. He joined ThoughtWorks in the U.S. in 1999 as a technology consultant. He spent most of his time working with mostly Silicon Valley startup companies in the Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) space. Hack Days seems to be the in-thing amongst developers. The 24-hour coding challenge has caught the fancy of the tech community which is looking for various ways to make work more interesting. Barely a few weeks after Yahoo conducted its much publicized public Hack Day, Sabre Labs is holding one for its employees here in India. Jay Fichialos flew in from the U.S. to India to help coordinate the hack day at Sabre's Bangalore office. Jay Fichialos is a community and technology liaison for Sabre Labs, in Southlake, Texas, where he leads research on where online communities and travel intersect. Most recently he has been guiding the development of Bambora.com a social networking site for travelers, and promoting Hack Day innovation events at Sabre. Jay's professional interests include information visualization, designing for experience, and social change through technology. DNA has this to say about Picsquare: "Banking on the sentiments of Indians who hold family albums very dear, two techies, both graduates from IIT Bombay, have launched Picsquare, a website that will print and deliver digital photos posted on it anywhere in the country." This Bangalore-based startup is founded by Manish Agrawal, a mechanical engineer, and Kartik Jain, a chemical engineer. Both Agrawal and Jain resigned from corporate jobs to start the venture. They own savings, along with help from a few angel investors, helped get things started. Now, it is being "incubated" by the Bangalore chapter of The Indus Entrepreneurs. Picsquare was selected from among 10 contestants in the TiE Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program that aims to foster businesses by a creating an ecosystem similar to the one in Silicon Valley. Aryans ,a very talked about term of history, in this post I will trying to post some of the finest details about them.Some of them a reporduction(OOps!!! I guess copy would be the rite word, guys please don mind it , its just propogation of knowledge)
and some of my comments.

They called themselves the "noble ones" or the "superior ones." Their names are lost; their tribal names are lost. But when they found themselves conquerors, they gave themselves the name "superior" or "noble."

They were a tribal and nomadic peoples living in the far reaches of Euro-Asia in hostile steppe lands barely scratching out a living. They were unquestionably a tough people, and they were fierce and war-like. Their religion reflects it dominated as it is by a storm-god or sky-god that enjoins warfare and conquest. This god was called something like "Dyaus," a word related to "Zeus," "deus" (the Latin word for "god"), "deva" (the Sanskrit word for "god"), and, of course, the English word "divine." Their culture was oriented around warfare, and they were very good at it. They were superior on horseback and rushed into battle in chariots. They were a tribal people ruled over by a war-chief, or raja (the Latin word "rex" (king) comes from the same root word, along with the English "regal"). Somewhere in the early centuries of the second millenium BC, they began to migrate southwards in waves of steady conquest across the face of Persia and the lands of India.

There, they would take on the name "superior" or "noble" to distinguish themselves from the people they conquered. Their name is derived from the Indo-European root word, "ar," meaning "noble." In Sanskrit, they were the "Aryas" ("Aryans"); but that root, "ar," would also serve as the foundation of the name of the conquered Persian territories, "Iran." This concept of nobility, in fact, seems to lie at the heart of Indo-European consciousness, for it appears in another country's name, "Ireland," or "Eire." You can bet, however, that when a people go around calling themselves superior that it spells bad news for other people.

And there is no question that they were bad news for the southern Asians. They swept over Persia with lightening speed, and spread across the northern river plains of India. Their nature as a warlike, conquering people are still preserved in Vedic religion, the foundation of Hinduism. In the Rig Veda, the collection of praises to the gods, the god Indra towers over the poetry as a conquering god, one that smashes cities and slays enemies. The invading Aryans were originally nomadic peoples, not agricultural. They penetrated India from the north-west, settling first in the Indus valley. Unlike the Harappans, however, they eventually concentrated their populations along the Ganges floodplain. The Ganges, unlike the Indus, is far milder and more predictable in its flooding. It must have been a paradise to a people from the dry steppes of central Asia and Iran, a paradise full of water and forest. When they arrived, the vast northern plains were almost certainly densely forested. Where now bare fields stretch to the horizon, when the Aryans arrived lush forests stretched to those very same horizons. Clearing the forests over the centuries was an epic project and one that is still preserved in Indian literature.

The Aryans, or Vedic civilization were a new start in Indian culture. Harappa was more or less a dead end (at least as far as we know); the Aryans adopted almost nothing of Harappan culture. They built no cities, no states, no granaries, and used no writing. Instead they were a warlike people that organized themselves in individual tribal, kinship units, the jana. The jana was ruled over by a war-chief. These tribes spread quickly over northern India and the Deccan. In a process that we do not understand, the basic social unit of Aryan culture, the jana, slowly developed from an organization based on kinship to one based on geography. The jana became a janapada, or nation and the jana-rajya , or tribal kingdom, became the jana-rajyapada, or national kingdom. So powerfully ingrained into Indian culture is the jana-pada , that Indians still define themselves mainly by their territorial origins. All the major territories of modern India, with their separate cultures and separate languages, can be dated back to the early jana-padas of Vedic India.

The earliest history of the Aryans in India is called the Rigvedic Period (1700-1000 BC) after the religious praise poems that are the oldest pieces of literature in India. These poems, the Rig Veda, are believed to represent the most primitive layer of Indo-European religion and have many characteristics in common with Persian religion since the two peoples are closely related in time. In this early period, their population was restricted to the Punjab in the northern reaches of the Indus River and the Yamuna River near the Ganges. They maintained the Aryan tribal structure, with a raja ruling over the tribal group in tandem with a council. Each jana seems to have had a chief priest; the religion was focused almost entirely on a series of sacrifices to the gods. The Rigvedic peoples originally had only two social classes: nobles and commoners. Eventually, they added a third: Dasas , or "darks." These were, we presume, the darker-skinned people they had conquered. By the end of the Rigvedic period, social class had settled into four rigid castes: the caturvarnas, or "four colors." At the top of the caturvarnas were the priests, or Brahmans. Below the priests were the warriors or nobles (Kshatriya), the craftspeople and merchants (Vaishya), and the servants (Shudra), who made up the bulk of society. These economic classes were legitimated by an elaborate religious system and would be eventually subdivided into a huge number of economic sub-classes which we call "castes." Social class by the end of the Rigvedic period became completely inflexible; there was no such thing as social mobility.

In the early centuries of Later Vedic Period or Brahmanic Period (1000-500 BC), the Aryans migrated across the Doab, which is a large plain which separates the Yamuna River from the Ganges. It was a difficult project, for the Doab was thickly forested; the Aryans slowly burned and settled the Doab until they reached the Ganges. While the Rig Veda represents the most primitive religion of the Aryans during the Rigvedic Period, the religion of the Later Vedic period is dominated by the Brahmanas, or priestly book, which was composed sometime between 1000 and 850 BC. Later Vedic society is dominated by the Brahmans and every aspect of Aryan life comes under the control of priestly rituals and spells. In history as the Indians understand it, the Later Vedic Period is the Epic Age; the great literary, heroic epics of Indian culture, the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, though they were composed between 500 and 200 BC, were probably originally formulated and told in the Later Vedic Period. Both of these epics deal with heroes from this period and demonstrate how Aryan cultural values, as we can understand them from the Rig Veda , are being transformed by mixing with Indus cultures.

What did the Aryans do with their time? They seem to have had a well-developed musical culture, and song and dance dominated their society. They were not greatly invested in the visual arts, but their interest in lyric poetry was unmatched. They loved gambling. They did not, however, have much interest in writing even though they could have inherited a civilization and a writing system when they originally settled India. We do not know exactly when they became interested in writing, but it may have been at the end of the Brahmanic period somewhere between 650 and 500 BC. Still, there are no Aryan writings until the Mauryan period—from Harappa (2500-1750 BC) to Maurya (300 BC) is quite a long time. The script that the Mauryans used is called "Brahmi" script and was used to write not only the religious and literary language of the time, Sanskrit, but also the vernacular languages. This script, Brahmi, is the national alphabet of India.

The Vedic period, then, is a period of cultural mixing, not of conquest. Although the Aryans were a conquering people when they first spread into India, the culture of the Aryans would gradually mix with indigenous cultures, and the war-religion of the Aryans, still preserved in parts of the Rig Veda, slowly became more ritualized and more meditative. By 200 BC, this process of mixing and transforming was more or less complete and the culture we call "Indian" was fully formed.

I think life's more simpler than what we think.The basic fact that its unexpected makes it seem complex. Stick to the basics and you will fell it easy to live .But the paradox is that we always make it complex by expecting what we wish , and yes if you get that you say "life's good" and if you don't you say "man life's were tough".
Yes this happens with everybody I mean happens with alot .Yes with me alot why , because I am a great dreamer or rather I expect my life to be like what I think .I don't say that dreaming is bad or expecting much out of life is bad , but its always bad not to expect the unexpected.I don't know what controls my life and your life , I guess there's something.Because its sure nobody wants a bad life in this world ,and that's why nobody , I can bet nobody does anything deliberatly wrong and why would anybody do so .Its always the situation which makes things right and wrong .
Actually , theory of relativity applies to each and every aspect of our life . I mean take for example : In a class of 5 students , one got first rank in an examination , other second and so on .Look at this situaion very closely , the guy who got first rank is ranked first because somebody stood second , and vice versa . What I mean to say is that b are relative and thats why both are vital.Had there been no second and you can never have a situation where there is first rank and third rank and no second rank , I think you guys must be understanding what I mean to say .
Lets implement it with expected and unexpected . Expected exists because ther's something unexpected and vice versa .Both are relative .
